The Dental Health Clinic, located in Berwick, received the "Outstanding Oral Health Initiative of 2007." This award recognizes a person or group of people who has addressed a definable community dental need and improved the oral health of the underserved. The recipient must have removed barriers between dental services and those who need services, and developed services that were previously lacking.

The Berwick Dental Health Clinic is a non-profit organization serving Columbia, Montour, and lower Luzerne Counties. Their mission is to provide oral health for those with the greatest financial barriers to care, including those with Medical Assistance and the uninsured populations in the three-county area. Their goal is to improve the dental health of the community, with an emphasis on education, prevention, and early intervention. They aim to treat and reduce the incidence of dental caries and periodontal disease in a friendly environment. This past year they have increased their dental practitioners, adding Dr. Ken Foster, and expanded services to those who need it.

The Northcentral and Northeast Pennsylvania AHEC sponsored the conference, together with Pennsylvania College of Technology, Central Susquehanna Community Foundation, Susquehanna Health, and the Lycoming-Clinton Dental Society. For information about next year’s conference, visit www.ncpaahec.org.
